I went to last years derby and asked my girlfriend to pick the winner. She did the usual girly "this jockey has the prettiest outfit, bet on him." Since the horse was a longshot, I ignored her. She of course picked the winner. I promised to listen to her this year...

I didn't know they are entering cloned horses- First Samuari in the Derby.
You did clearly state that you have one horse listed twice.

update
First Samurai is officially off of the Derby Trail after coming in 5th on Saturday in the Blue Grass Stakes. Sinister Minister will be getting more attention after a huge "upset" win in the Blue Grass.

Anybody else love the funny names they give horses?

I went to school with a girl who used to show horses and she told me why they were named the way they were, but I've since forgot. Anyone know the reasoning? I believe it has something to do with the bloodlines of the parents.

I read somewhere that out of 20 horses at the annual Kentucky Derby that which horse numbers usually don't win the Kentucky Derby. The answer is 17 and 19. I will have to hunt that question tonight and post it here late tonight. Is it true that horses that are #17 or #19 tend not to win the Kentucky Derby?

kiss of death
i am going to have to bet against lawyer ron, after reading this quote from o.j. simpson. it turns out that simpson is a big fan of horse racing and was interviewed yesterday while visiting the backstretch at churchill downs.
"I love lawyers, man, I'm betting any lawyers in the race, and there's a Lawyer Ron in this race,'' Simpson said. "If there was a Lawyer Johnnie, I'd bet my house on it.''
Simpson was referring to Johnnie Cochran Jr., the lead attorney who helped Simpson get acquitted. Cochran died in 2005.

Like I said earlier today that I would hunt up the question that I read this morning, here is the question:
Of the 20 post positions at the Kentucky Derby, which two have never seen a winner?
The answer is 17 and 19.
