The question remains - Would you rather hunt with Cheney or ride with Teddy?

It's an irrelevant non sequitur meant to deflect criticism. I makes just as much sense to say "Would you rather hunt with Cheney or ride with Laura Bush?", and is just as tasteless.

All I know is that Cheney apologized yesterday with Brit Hume and in my book, it's time to put it to bed (unless the hunter who was hurt were to have some unfortunate medical twist). This has nothing to do with politics and is only bad judgement by a man on a hunting trip.

Make your final jokes, put the issue to bed, and lets get back to real issues.

I agree that this issue is pretty much over. I think it's sad that everyone is so worried about a 78 year old man who's obviously lived a fine life while there's hardly a mention of the three 18-20 year old soldiers that were killed yesterday in Iraq, which Cheney obviously had a hand in sending over there. I don't want to turn this into a political thread either, I just think a lot more time should be spent honoring the real heroes:

Now if a somewhat significant amount of alcohol was involved, I think this whole story changes, and you can then draw parallels to the Ted Kennedy case, although it still seems to be a stretch. And in answer to Sonny's question, I don't want any part of Cheney or Ted Kennedy or anyone who makes terrible, negligent decisions and puts other peoples lives in jeopardy.

Word.

I'd rather remove my own tonsils than spend any length of time with either of them.

Not being a watcher of the cable news shows, I was stunned (but not surprised) when the Daily Show did a quick recap of the coverage. It just reflected why I never bother watching that crap. Total overkill on some meaningless story (i.e. Holloway/Aruba, Michael Jackson, Terri Schiavo), and then it's on to the next bit of sensationalism. The lack of meaningful coverage of real issues of the day, in a thoughtful, well-reasoned approach is sad, and why I listen to NPR and the BBC, since they do the best job af actually reporting on the real news of the day.

I also try to stay away from the cable press by going the NPR/international route. I've seen many discussions on the topic of "junk" news, even the media hates it. However, when the ratings are compiled and data are analyzed the Michael J, Terry Shivo's, and Holloway stories are tops. Can't remember who said this (its very sad in my opinion but true), if Americans wanted hard news then PBS's new hour with Jim Lehr would be the #1 rated news show.

I do think this is the first time the VP has shot someone? There have been a couple duels in our history at the executive level........

In defense of the Daily Show, it never claims to be a real news show, and is more of an entertainment show that deals with current events topics. I think they do a good job at what they are trying to do. If you are going to Comedy Central for your news source and are disappointed with it, that's a you problem. If the show was on PBS, then I would agree wholeheartedly.

Aaron Burr was Jefferson's VP, but I don't believe he was the sitting VP at the time of the duel with Alexander Hamilton, but I'm not positive on that.

Burr was still VP when he shot Hamilton, although he only had 8 months left on his term. Hamilton was no longer in office.

No, I wasn't claiming to get my news from the Daily Show! Jon Stewart expressed dismay when he heard that significant number of younger kids actually did say they watch that as their news. No, I watch it because if you can't laugh at what's going on, you'd be crying. I still watch it in place of our local news, which consists of people picking up the paper and reading the stories from there!

Sorry LaxFan, I didn't mean that as a shot at you, as you stated you get your news from basically the last two reputable news sources left. I was just stating that people should watch the Daily Show for comedy more than for a realiable news source.
