We have a partial winner. McNally is one of the first free agents. Who is the second? Hints:

He played from 1965-1979. He was a pitcher. He played for the Dodgers in 1975. he is known to history as "Channel 17." Why is he known as this?

Messersmith's case was actually the more priominent of the two as it grabbed more of the headlines. He was much more outspoken than McNally. Their cases were filed at the same time. It was a followup to the challenge to the reserve clause that Flood instituted a few years before they came along.
