UC-Irvine has left Dallas a day early to head home and declined their final consolation game. As a result, No. Colorado's final consolation game is against the newly formed "North Texas Collegiate All-Stars."

The North Texas Collegiate All-Stars are made up of local Lone Star Alliance players (mostly U of North Texas and SMU).

Will UC-Irvine be penalised?

Kinda makes consolation games lose their value.

Just wondering.

Why would UNC be playing UCI in the first place? Is everyone guarenteed 3 games?

Too bad UNC isn't playing one of the other teams that lost in the quarterfinals (Harding, St Thomas, or Emory). Those would be great games, no?

yes, but if a team leaves early - that leaves one team out in the cold (i.e. Northern Colorado tomorrow).

Thanks Sonny...makes more sense now. Now, here's the next question...is this North Texas All Collegiate All-Stars going to be UNC's last game since they've already played 2? I hope not b/c it'd be great if UNC could see one of those other great teams that made it to the quarterfinals (Harding, St Thomas, Emory).

I agree with the above - seems to make sense to have teams that made the quarterfinals ( Harding, St. Thomas, Emory, UNC ) match up. Interesting matchups and a reward for winning the first round.

Or even go by the seedings......

UNC had already played Irvine in any event, early on in the year - if the goal was not to have 'rematches' this one doesn't make any sense..

Even though these are consolation games they do mean something to the teams involved......

yes. Today (Thurs) is the last day of consolation play.

There are 4 semis in the main stadium on Fri (11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm) and the two championships in the main stadium on Saturday.

I just think UNC is getting the short end of the stick on the matchups.

They came in ranked #6, thier only losses this year are to #1 St. Johns, #2 Westminster (2), #3 Montana (2), and UVSC who was #4 I believe at the time.

Shouldn't the consolation matpchups be reflective of the season(/records - as wel as the quarterfinal results as mentioned above....

First consolation game was pre-determined by the bracket:

The third (final) consolation bracket was determined by the tournament staff and was based on teams that were geographically diverse (& didn't play this past regular season). NO consideration was given to their regular season record.

That was part of my point. UNC and Irvine DID play, in February. UNC won 10 to 8. I brought up all of the other stuff, in ADDITION to the fact they had already played.........

If Irvine had stuck around, UNC wouldn't have played them. The consolation games would have been a little different.

Wow, that is nice of Karl Lynch (UNT) and Thomas Greene (SMU) to step in to help out with this newly formed team to play UNC. We can bellyache all we want about what if's and why's about UCI leaving, but let's have fun on the field. That's Texas hospitality and make UNC's last game worthwhile. At the same time, it will be a good experience for the guys from UNT and SMU. Look forward to hearing about this game.

I agree, and we should appreciate these folks stepping up and playing the game, particulary on such short notice.

My only point is, this doesn't seem to make any sense - Irvine stays, UNC plays someone else, Irvine goes, they play the All-Stars.......

I also agree with the above post. There should be some consequences for the Irvine team and the WCLL. You can't be having people 'drop out' with all of the time, committments, and resources put forth by those teams serious about thier seasons. But I suppose that's another topic.........

Lets see.... Calvin drops out after the Div. B tourney field is announced. UC-Irvine leaves early. (Rumor going around is that they did not even want to come to Texas at all either).

How about we drop the entire Div. B Tournament all together?
