I was just at Pizza Hut Park this past weekend and the fields were in AMAZING shape. Nobody should complain about anything with fields when they come to Dallas again this year. Green and smooth and so lush that you'll wanna play in your bare feet. Even though 2 of the fields are turf, there is a stadium feel to Field 2, Fields 3 and 6 are next to the fountains, this is the perfect place to host this tournament.

Fields in Texas are generally cut fairly short.

Have the first round games been assigned to fields yet?

Not all of them. Only the 7pm games have been assigned, and this is because we have field requirements for the podcasts. All fields will be announced the day prior to game play.
The 7pm games are as follows:
Minn-Duluth/Sonoma - Field 2
Colorado/Az State - Field 3
Arizona/Boston College - Field 4
UCSB/Georgia - Field 6

Only thing I would like to see next year if we are back- ROLL THE TURF FIELDS.
They are very bumpy. You can tell them have not rolled the turf fields in some time to smooth out the collections of pellets.
Other than that- grass fields are nice, smooth and soft. Only shocking thing here this week so far to me is the WIND!
Pretty chilly in the morning at times

For us in Texas, we do welcome the chilly winds in the mornings and enjoy it for a while before the temps go up in the afternoon especially around 5 pm. 61 degrees right now is really NICE.

I attended the UM-D vs Sonoma game, and walked across Field 2 - it was bizzare for a turf field. It was very uneven, and it felt like the underlayment (sand, maybe?) wasn't well compacted. I'd like to hear from some of the guys that played on it.
Irrespective of that, PHP is a great facility - nice to have all the fields together like that. The grass fields were like fairways - very nice.
The UM-D/Sonoma game was great. I thought that Duluth represented very well, and a two-goal loss to Oregon after their earlier one-goal losses on the road bode well for the future. They have a ton of sophs and freshmen on the roster. Coach Graff has done an outstanding job putting together a program on the shore - although Lake Superior ain't Santa Barbara!

Everyone pretty much agrees that the turf wasn't the best. Talking with some of the PHP people, they said when they put it down, there were some bubbles and they weren't totally sure about how to get it down correctly. He also said that they are pulling them up on June 1 and putting them back down better, so next year should be fine. I really like this setting so far (the championship field is mint) and when they get the turf fields replaced, it will be even better.

Hopefully they have it fixed in time to move the tourney to Dick's Sporting Good's Park in Denver.
