Division B - Quarterfinal Round

1:30pm #4 Claremont vs #5 Montana
1:30pm #3 St Thomas vs #6 St John's
4:30pm #2 Utah Valley State vs #7 Eckerd
4:30pm #1 San Diego vs #8 Northern Colorado

UNC will be playing a San Diego team they saw in February. . .hopefully this one will be a much better contest than the USD 15-8 win back on President's Day weekend.

It looks like there are some fantastic matchups here. . .Eckerd proved today that their season was no fluke and that they are a team to be reckoned with. . .UVSC is going to have their hands full.

St. Thomas vs. St. John's is obviously a great matchup - 2 rival teams going at it for the third time this year. . .much like UCSD vs. UCSB yesterday in the A division.

And the best matchup, in my opinion, is the #4 vs. #5 in Claremont vs. Montana. I'm sure Claremont scouted the Grizzlies today and will have a nice game plan at the opening whistle. If both of these teams play well I expect a very high scoring game tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how Zach and Kevin's boys handle everything Claremont throws at them early and whether or not the potent Griz offense can keep firing against a very good Claremont team.

I'll be glued to my computer during my lunch break tomorrow, that's for sure.

All I have to say to UNC is this is not your February Toreros. They've honed their skills and closed the chinks in the defense since then. It will be a good game but the Bears have to contend with Steve, Joe and the rest of the D gang. These guys are still hyped from their victory over UCSD--I don't expect the Bears to score very many goals.

Eckerd is definitely taking this tournament seriously as evidenced by their early arrival. They will definitely be a handful for UVSC come tomorrow afternoon. Of the four tomorrow this game is the biggest mystery as far as how it will play out in my book.

St. Thomas vs St. John's: One of two grudge matches extraordinaire I see happening this tourney. Wouldn't surprise me if this one goes into overtime! I think I changed my results for this game in my bracket at least three times. Gotta go with the Johnnies simply for the revenge factor.

And speaking of revenge, our last matchup is Claremont-Montana. The Toreros have been waving their cape in Claremont's face all season. I don't think they're going to let a pack of Grizzly Bears get in the way of a chance for revenge against their perennial rival. The Bears may have some sharp claws and teeth, but so do the Cougs. They can also be very devious when they put their mind to it. You can be sure that Jason, Dylan and Tim have been working their units hard to get ready for this trip. No surprise that I'm picking the Cougs to win this contest.

Good luck to all the teams, but especially to the Cougs. It's great to see you where you belong--at Nationals.

Cathi. . .I agree this is going to be an exciting matchup between UM and Claremont. . . speaking to a few of the PLU guys who saw both teams this year -- those guys agree this is going to be a shootout between two very potent offensive teams (except when playing that USD defense). . .

I'm pulling for the Grizzlies here and I know if they play their best they will give Claremont a great game. . .

I don't think the bye is going to be much of an advantage for Claremont (other than scouting UM) being that the Montana game today was not much of a contest.

And it doesn't get any easier for the winner of this game with the USD - UNC winner waiting in the balance. . .

Even if people don't think these consolation games matter nobody wants to make such a long trip and not win anything. For instance, Florida St. They are getting worked right now by Arizona after already losing 2 games in the tournament. Going home 0-3 will not help their psyche nor will it help the national perception of the SELC being weak. All the strides they made last year could be nullified by such a poor performance this year. Just my opinion on why these games still matter.

Looks like somebody lit a fire under the Seminoles now as they have cut the lead to 3 in the 3rd quarter.

And just as quickly as that fire gets lit then it is extinguished by Arizona. Talk about a game of goal spurts.

I don't see any scores for these on the championship coverage page. Am I not looking hard enough, or are they just not there?
