The 2013 tournament returns to Greenville, SC this May.

2006 MDIA National Championship Backup Plan

Postby CyLaxKeeper00 on Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:16 pm

Should there be one?? What would the options be?? Maybe regional (ie WCLL & PNCLL; RMLC, UMLL & GRLC; CCLA & PCLL; LSA & SELC) tournaments and send the 4 winners and two wild cards to an open field somewhere in the country.

any thoughts??

A national championship tourney will take place in 2006 either in Minnesota or Texas. No need for a back-up plan.

Why would you have a 6-team tournament? How would you propose determining who gets the wild cards and the first-round byes?

Yeah, you're missing the point: I'm asking why it makes sense to hold a 6-team tournament instead of a 4-team or an 8-team tournament.

pt 1 anything more than an 8-team tourney would be a logistical nightmare giving short amount of time to plan

pt 2 why, 4 regional winner plus two wild cards. because i like the idea.

This is correct. No need for a "back-up plan."

Didn't think that planning the MDIA National Tournament is Pearl Harbor or 9/11.

what ever happened to "could happen" or emergency planning for that .0001 chance. I am the only one who is concerned about a 'worst case scenario?

There are two bids. They're trying to pick a site from among them. Do you think that somehow they're both going to fall through and they'll have to find some completely different site? If so, why do you think that?

The problem is not that they don't have a site, but that they can't decide which one they want. If one fell through, they'd just pick the other one.

Yeaaaaah. Who said anything about more than 8 teams? An 8-team DE bracket with no byes seems more logical than a 6-team tournament that would take as many rounds (though not as many games) to complete. Plus, you take out the effect of fatigue by some teams being given byes in a 6-team tourney.

I think for everyone that consistently competes, or thinks they are going to compete this year, they have already made plans. Teams that are consistently in the playoffs say for example in the LSA A&M, UT, Texas Tech, UTA, and Southwestern, those teams are already making plans regardless of location.

I agree though that we need an answer soon. Determining where to play shouldn't be as big of an ordeal as it has become, not like hosting the Superbowl. We already know that Blaine is adequately suited for hosting a National Championship. And most everyone here in the DFW area will tell you that Dallas is well equiped to host the National Championship.
