Any insight/predictions on the D1 second round match ups?

Michigan over Georgia
ASU over UMD
BYU over Simon Fraser
Chapman over CSU

the byu sfu game could be a good one. according to my super secret sources down in dallas, sfu looks legit, plays really physical and really benefits from the style of reffing down there. (letting them play) if byu can show up, unlike yesterday, they should pull it out because of their numbers and depth. however, if lamb and co. look sfu over like fsu a couple years ago, there could be trouble in happy valley.

I think WOU will upset Westminster. Again, Westminster has not put together many impressive wins this season.

If Southwestern is not completely gassed, then they will play GVSU close.

St. Thomas over Elon.

Dayton over ST. Johns

SFU over BYU
Georgia over UM
Chapman over CSU
UMD over ASU

Interesting to see that there is a very strong possibility of having 4 different conferences represented in the Final Four this year... i really can't say off the top of my head, but i'd be willing to wager that this has not happened very often if at all in the league's history

BYU vs. Simon Fraser at 4pm - BYU by 5
Minnesota-Duluth vs. Arizona State at 4pm - ASU by 4
Chapman vs. Colorado State at 7pm - Chapman by 2
Michigan vs. Georgia at 7pm - Georgia by 1 (probably not happening, but I like rooting for the bulldogs)



Other prediction, RB has a very boring day at work.

Your right, this should be a good game. SFU looked legit for most of the year. I would argue that BYU did show up yesterday (maybe outside of the first 10 minutes on the defensive side of the ball). BC's defense (especially the poles) was excellent all game long. Past tournament losses like the FSU and Oregon games (even though it was in the consolation round) still linger for the upper classmen and the coaching staff. They did not over look BC nor will they over look SFU.

SFU may be aggressive (ie they have excellent transition and ball pressure on the defensive side) but they are not a "physical" team. They are not bruisers who will knock you out. They are hit and run guys who steal you in the eye then dance to the side. They have the best transition game this league has seen in a long time, possibly the best ever (Maybe one of the CSU teams was better, but I doubt they were more skilled than this SFU team).

If BYU wins it will not be because of their numbers or depth. It will be because, first off, they ride well (not just getting the ball back but also get back in transition to force SFU to play 6v6 offense). Second, the BYU offense needs to limit turnovers that lead to SFU transition. Eight or 9 of the 11 goals SFU scored in Provo were off of transition. I believe the BYU defense is better than the SFU offense in 6v6. I also believe that Coach Lamb is one of the top coaches in the league at adapting and altering his game plan. I am sure SFU is much better now than when they met 3 months ago. However Coach Lamb always has his players playing their best ball come tournament time. I believe he will make personnel and game plan changes that will tip the scale in favor of the cougs.

The 1st and 3rd quarters will be very interesting for me to "watch".

good job byu for pulling out the one goal victory.

I thought SFU looked the better team, but along with higher highs, they had lower lows, missing passes here and there and making a few costly mental errors. Combine that with BYU's goalie getting hot in the 2nd half, making a few point blank saves, and SFU just couldn't pull it out.

Although they looked smaller, SFU certainly wasn't intimidated by BYU and was very physical, laying the more impressive hits. BYU was pretty consistent the whole game and is a solid team.

What hate from The Rope! And I have not been bored at work. I've been working on the beach all day and will continue to do so for the rest of the week. This amazing weather is perfect for marine biologists. At least I won't have to worry about UCSB for another 9 months.

ineedmorecowbell: Please leave the analysis to the people actually in Dallas. I'm fairly certain that anyone that watched the game would tell you that it was a battle between two evenly matched teams (I talked to a number of BYU supporters here who said BC was one of the best teams they saw all year). The game was a brutal match for both teams, and kudos to BYU for pulling it out in the end.

When looking at the whole bracket, I think BYU definitely had the toughest road to the final 4. They played BC in the first round, who in my opinion (obviously biased, but I think warranted...ask people that were there) was an 8 or 9 seed disguised as a 13, then they played an SFU squad that was relentless. I watched that game today and damn, those canadians can play. Compared to everyone else, I think BYU played two of the most talented teams in the first round, and should be ready to go heading into Texas Stadium.
