And so the madness has begun........

The 2013 tournament returns to Greenville, SC this May.

I think if you are doubting teams like BC and Northeastern you my friend are living in the fairy tail.

I didn't know fairies had tails. Anyways, I don't think people are doubting them, they are just unproven in the tournament. If they win today, people will take notice.

Here is a quote from the game article posted on this site for the Sonoma v. Lindenwood game: "Both teams substituted early and often. Nine different players scored for Sonoma State. Lindenwood's Jimmy Lang (4g) led all scorers.

What is the reasoning behind not playing starters at nationals after losing in the first round? Teams are still playing for end of the year standings, so I just do not see the reasoning.

I suppose to give everyone PT, esp the seniors that may, or may not be starters. That's my guess. Everyone (I assume) that steps on the field wants to win.

I have always agreed that it would be fun to see teams care, the problem is the ones that felt they were contenders for #1 just don't care.

NCAA Basketball do they play consolation? no.

The only reason the games are held I believe is to allow a team that pays to get there, some more experience and games in for the money.

Maybe it's more a situation of playing non-starters who have worked just as hard all year (or maybe for four years!), who have paid their player dues including the cost of the trip to nationals, deserving some playing time in a tournament they might not ever reach again? This is club lacrosse after all, it's the players' team not the university's, and the consolation round means very little. Playing time in the tournament now for young reserves can also be very valuable in the succeeding seasons if the team repeats as a tourney participant.

Because to some teams, their end of the year standing doesn't matter unless their standing is #1.

Dan has hit it right on the head. After you've been eliminated from the winners bracket, there are other motivations for teams. These are the most important reasons why the consolation round means different things for different teams.

Agreed. Nobody goes to Nationals hoping to finish #7. At least no one should.

Are consolation bracket teams playing for "end of the year standings"?

I hope to god the poll voters are not factoring in consolation games in their final poll votes.

The final poll should be about 1) how you did in the winners bracket games and 2) your overal body of work in the regular season.

Good thing there isn't a final poll.
