I think that was just a bit of sarcasm, as in, when the heck will they announce it. Looking forward to hearing the decision.

I thought we were just going to use a system like the BCS and forget about the final games since the BCS is so perfect and we already would know who was number one. :D

Baltimore. Today US lacrosse announced that they have selected Fairbanks Alaska as the site of the 2006 USLIA Championship tournament. The anouncement came as asurprise to MDIA member schools because the board had been considering Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dallas, Texas.
The venue is not actually in Fairbanks Alaska, it is in an icebowl facility about 45 minutes north of Fairbanks. "It is one of the fastest growing parts of the Fairbanks metropolitan area" said the US lacrosse spokesman.
The icebowl facility was selected because US lacrosse was having such a difficult time choosing between the early front runners in Minnesota and Texas. "The icebowl was the best value for the money" said the US lacrosse spokesman. "We will have bleachers and clocks and toilet facitities for each early round game. The fields are all close enough to watch multiple games with out moving an inch. The stadium for the semi final and final games is actually in an abandoned stone quarry 15 miles from the site of the early round games. It is very nice because the field is sunken to avoid the nasty winds around that time of year." said Harry David Solomon the US lacrosse press secretary.
US lacrosse had hoped to make an anouncement in early November but kept putting off the decision until Fairbanks made a last minute surprise bid.
John Paul, president of the MDIA, when reached for comment said, "Don't worry. The decision will be made shortly. I love Texas and Minnesota is great."

Yeah, but do they have hi-speed internet access at the stone quarry?

Excerpt from Sonny's 2006 Blog in Alaska:

It is really cold here. I don't think I can feel my feet.

Noma is wearing their special Noma skates and shorts with D.I.I.C.H. (D@mn, it is cold here).

Slowly loosing all feeling....

Or broomball shoes.

I think Fairbanks will be great. True, during last year's tourney it averaged -10 degrees Fahrenheit, but that's well below the average of 10 degrees for that time of the year. I am concerned that the record high for May of 38 degrees might pose problems for some teams not used to playing in warmer weather.*

Also, it's central location--central to Alaska, anyway--will allow easy travel for Alaskan MDIA teams, should any ever form. And for those who live elsewhere, Fairbanks is easy to get to by air drop or sled dog.

Finally, they had a Taco Bell in Fairbanks, at least in June of 1996 when my wife and I visited as part of our honeymoon. It closed at 10:00 p.m., along with almost everything else in town.

I'm only going to Alaska if I get hi-speed Net access AND one of those warming seat/chairs you see on the NFL sidelines. ;)
