While I am happy to lend my programming skills, I don't plan to offer anything up myself. A few years ago I think Sonny lined up some prizes from Lax World. Last year there was offers of pinneys and t-shirts, that apparently never materialized.

If anyone wants to take the lead, your efforts sincerely invited.

Actually, if I had a recommendation for the points, it would be that you make the points for deciding the games start lower...

i.e. first round 10, second 15.... so on.

That way, picking a successful team will have more weight the further they get into the tournament, and first round picks (which will be the easiest, if there is such a thing this year) will have a lower weighted contribution overall.

As it is now, there are this many potential points in each round:

1- 160
2- 100
3- 60
4- 35

By lowering the starting value to 15,

1- 120
2- 80
3- 50
4- 30

By Lowering to 10

1- 80
2- 60
3- 40
4- 25

I guess it all depends on what you want to have more weight- do you want a lot of people around the same value, with the winner being very close to the pack (barring massive tournament upsets), or do you want values that are more spaced out? This was simply my initial reaction when I saw the point allocations- but to be fair I didn't participate last year or pay attention to the distribution of scores.

why not just score it like most ncaa bball bracket challeges?
round 1 = 1 point
round 2 = 2 pts
round 3 = 4 pts
round 4 = 8 pts

total of 32 points

if you wanna throw in a twist, if u pick an upset...take the difference between there 2 ranks and multiply it by the round #. this rewards lower seeded teams for knocking off better opponents.
examples:
if #12 beats #5 in round one, 7 points ((12-5)*1)
if #4 beats #13 in round one, 1 point
if #13 beats #8 in round three, 15 points ((13-8)*3)
and so forth

just an idea im throwin out there...ive seen it work before

Here is a link to last year's rankings:
http://www.laxshopper.com/cgi-bin/brack ... ankings.pl

If you'd like to analyze these results, I'd welcome your further input.

Last year the points available for each round were:
1- 8x10=80
2- 4x20=80
3- 2x30=60
4- 1x50=50

Here is what the graph of the 383 players points totals looks like:
Image
Jim had 287 and won by 6 points. Only 1 other person selected 14 of the 15 winners.

Noma, if we did that then the bonus points for selecting the margin would be too significant.

That looks great, and it looks like you ended up with a great distribution.

This year is going to be much harder to pick I think.

Are telling me that Sonny was unable to go into his secret closet at the MDIA Hall of Justice and pull out an old Georgia Tech reversible as a reward for your prognosticating feats? Sonny this is a travesty.

Look we all know that your secret closet is filled with rare lacrosse relics that could fetch thousands on eBay. These artifacts belong to the world, not just to you for your own selfish enjoyment. Come on Indiana Sonny, open up your treasure trove and lets give the world what is wants, ney, what it deserves!

jimh3983 --

Please email me. I can offer a prize from Sonny's MDIA closet of "retired" lax wear for last year's effort. ;)

That's hilarious.

Well, if you'd like to give it a shot, I think division A is secure enough at this point to open the challenge ballot box. You will be able to update your picks throughout the week up until the start of the first game.

If you guys think it's ready for the masses, we can start the promotions.

I have not started programming the Division B challenge, if I get the time I will let you know when it's done.

What, are you having second thoughts about NE's upset of SSU?

I have updated the start page to include a link to edit your picks, you'll need to reference the email that should have been sent after registering to find the required passcode.

There is a chance you'll need to refresh the page to see the updates.

Someone should tell Andy that he's going to the wrong city!
After you post your picks the next page says that he will be in Blaine updating all the results...he'll be a little lonely.
(But at least he can enjoy the lovely weather)

Burt, if that's the best you can come up with in the 4087 lines of code it took to create this FREE feature, yeah, I win!
