WPI Head/Asst Coach

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) men’s lacrosse team is currently looking to fill both head and assistant coaching positions for the 2014 season. The lacrosse program is currently in its 14th year as an MCLA team, competing in Division II. We are looking for fun, qualified, and experienced coaches to lead us onto the field and keep us a competitive club team in the MCLA.

Required qualifications for both head and assistant coaching positions:

o Previous lacrosse coaching experience (at least 1 year)

o Minimum 2 years out of college or age 23-24

o Valid driver’s license and clean driving/criminal record

Since this is a club team, it is primarily student run. Officers of the club manage team equipment, schedule buses, referees, field time, club assets and funds, and social/fundraising activities. As a result, coaching responsibilities include attending/running practices, attending/coaching games, and riding to and from games with the team.

The coaching positions begin in the 2nd week of January and run until the 1st or 2nd week of May (depending upon play-offs). The season consists of 10-14 games in the New England area (Maine, Boston area, Southern Connecticut) and as far south as New York/Long Island. The tentative 2014 season schedule is as follows:

Preseason conditioning practice is January 16th – February 7th
o Practice 1-2 times per week
o 1-2 hours per practice
o Possible times: Earliest start 5:00 pm; latest ending 10:00 pm

Regular season practice is March 17th – May 6th
o Practice 5 days a week, Monday-Friday (Saturday optional)
o 2-hour practices
o Possible times: Earliest start 5:00 pm; latest ending 11:00 pm

Salary: HC - $3,000, AC - $1,100. Appointment: Part-Time, 4 months.
